Unexpected Charm: We stumbled across Bago Wine Bar during a walking tour of Faro, and it immediately caught our eye from across the street. After finishing the tour, we decided to circle back—and I’m glad we did. What looked inviting from the outside had even more charm once we stepped in.
It’s a small spot with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. They aren’t open late during the non-peak season, but that didn’t take away from the experience at all. The food and service were both excellent.
I had my first taste of authentic Algarve sardines—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly paired with a chili sauce that added just the right kick. My wife chose the stewed chicken, which was light yet incredibly tasty and comforting. The drinks were well made, refreshing, and exactly what we needed after a long walking tour.
The ambiance really stood out. Relaxing, sophisticated pop music played in the background, and we found ourselves lingering longer than planned, just soaking it all in.
If you’re spending the day exploring Faro, I definitely recommend making this a pit stop. It’s the kind of place that turns a simple bite into a memorable moment.

Happened to walk by in the rain, during another (!) storm. Wow… so happy we stopped. Very friendly service by the owner and his lovely server. Beautiful wine, Bellus - Alentejo, amazing Camembert, and totally delicious hams from Alentejo. Loved it all. We will be back. Highly recommended. Thank you

Amazing wine place with delicious food, I loved the main meat dishes, which were made by the chef especially for wine collection. It is a rare wine venue that also has good breakfasts. Tapas and wine snacks are top level, lots of high quality wine from all over Portugal. I tried regional whites and they were amazing! Rui is a such a great host and a thoughtful sommelier. We were happy to find the place on the first day in Faro and did not want to leave it :)
