Idanha-a-Velha is a small Village that was founded in 1BC by Romans. You can see a lot of historical buildings from Romans and Templers. There is no entrance fee and you can walk through the whole area. Most of the buildings have signs with Short explanations. There is a tourist office (very friendly staff) where you can get a plan about the Village but also a Map for hiking and bycicle trails. Cost fee WiFi is also available.

The finest example of a Visigothic cathedral on the Iberian Peninsular. The Celts Romans Visigoths Moors and Templars all passed through here.

After getting lost, we found this little gem completely by chance. Fascinating place with such a rich history dating back to the 1100s. It was amazing to see that the houses within the castelo are still inhabited by the locals. Definitely worth a visit!
