Zoo da Maia is a fair and enjoyable zoo that makes a solid day out, especially if you are visiting with children. There is a good variety of animals, and the live shows and demonstrations add an extra element of fun and learning that kids in particular will enjoy.
That said, the overall infrastructure feels like it needs revamping and investment. Some areas of the zoo look slightly run down, and certain enclosures could benefit from modernization to improve both animal comfort and visitor experience. On my visit, one of the bears did not look very happy, which was a little sad to see. It highlighted that some animals could do with more enriched habitats.
Despite that, the zoo still offers one of the better wildlife experiences in the Porto area and its surroundings. It has enough species and attractions to keep visitors interested for a few hours, and the layout is easy to navigate, making it a straightforward outing for families.

Small zoo with many birds, monkeys and snakes. Not many big animals but has a with white bengal tiger and a brown bear. Cheap tickets! Usually not too crowded. Nice place to spend a sunny evening with kids.

Perfect size set up. Small, yet diverse. Clean, kind staff, shady. We were there for 5 hours (!) and weren't bored for one second. With a friend, a 6 year old boy and a 14 year old girl. Loved it. Special thanks to the tiger lady 🥰

It's the smallest zoo I've ever visited. But the value for money is great, our daughter was free and it cost less for me and my girlfriend than what 1 ticket would cost in the uk. We visited as we had a few hours to waste before our flight, as it's only a 10 minute drive from Porto airport it's perfect for this.
