Restaurante O Serol

In this October day the restaurant was not too busy. We were three and check the fish available. They had an enormous Grouper head, which we decided to have. It was great. We had clams and anchovies as appetisers. Almond tart afterwards. Overlooking the Armação de Pera beach and the Atlantic. Great meal.

Everything was wonderful. The shrimp were flavorful, sardines were just great. Clams, pork, etc were tasteful and the salads were awesome. Everything was fresh. I think they just caught the sardines.

A lovely warm welcome and superb food too. The Cataplana was incredible and looking out at the sunset over the beach on our last night of holiday was just spectacular.

This is one of those tourist restaurants you’ll find all around the beach area, most of them offering nearly identical menus and prices.

That said, this spot is my go-to recommendation for the traditional Portuguese Cataplana de peixe e mariscos paired with a delicious bottle of wine. It’s a family-friendly restaurant with plenty of seating and a lovely view. The staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and warm, making the experience all the more enjoyable.

Regarding some of the reviews I’ve read: this is Portugal, on the Atlantic coast—it's not the place to order lasagna or meat. This is the place, and the region, to enjoy fresh fish.
