A Hidden Gem in Portugal!

We found The House of Stews by chance during our November 2025 trip to Portugal, and honestly, it ended up being one of the best meals of our visit. The place has such a warm, inviting vibe, perfect for our anniversary dinner, and the owners were so kind and lovely to chat with.

We shared the traditional “Campo” beef stew and a couvert for two, which was plenty, but we couldn’t resist trying the warm brownie with ice cream and whipped cream for dessert. The wine they recommended was perfect for both of us and tied everything together beautifully.

The food was incredible — you can really taste the care and tradition in every dish. We sat in the winter garden, surrounded by flowers and greenery, absolutely gorgeous inside.

Great food, great people, and amazing value for money. We left full, happy, and feeling like we should’ve paid more! Definitely recommend if you want a real taste of Portuguese home cooking.

House of Stews is outstanding! We had an amazing meal (beef fillet and campo stew), accompanied by the house wine, followed with coffee and a brownie dessert. The restaurant is quaint and the host and hostess made you feel welcome. We have been in the area for two weeks and this by far the BEST restaurant we have been to so far.

We had a meal for 2 just walked in and a table was found straight away for us. The atmosphere was very good had the feel of a family restaurant. We loved the food and the desserts were home made yummy 😁thank you❤️we had prawns to start with and then beef fillet and chicken. The table next to us had the stew and they says it was delicious too. We definitely recommend and will go back before we go back to the UK.

The food was outstanding — the fish was incredibly fresh and flavorful, the meat mix was perfectly cooked and full of taste, and the salad was fresh and delicious. The staff were extremely friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. The atmosphere of the place was simply magical — cozy, warm, and full of charm. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great dining experience.
