A good hike but a nice area and several hungry cats to feed (bring some food with you, if you're staying in PD then Pingo has a 1.5 kilo bag for cheap (or Agriloja is even cheaper). Don't forget to take some down to Cascalho (where there are 17+ cats). These pics are from end of November 2025; the mornings up top generally start off rainy and foggy but by the time I've had breakfast and start walking it is consistently nice on the cliff sides. I've been doing this every year and it never fails (wish I could say the same about Sete Cidades fog).

What an incredible trail. When you think about all the work it must have taken to achieve those houses, gardens, the specialy paved trail. It's awesome. But be aware that it's a really steep trail and the sun on the cliff add a couple of degrees and there is not much shadow. There is a covered picnic area, a bit of information water source and washroom down there. You can also bring a couple of Euros, there is a small nice coffee to take a pause.

I could hike this trail every day. What an incredible coastal trail with fantastic views and diverse terrain. We hiked it late in the day, and we saw maybe three people along the entire route. It's an absolutely idyllic part of the island. The feeling of walking here on an island in the middle of the ocean, where all you can hear is your own breathing and the sound of the waves, is incredible. Here's to more places like this in the future!

A really lovely walk ‘off the beaten path’ so quiet and gets you down to the ocean. Heading out is mostly downhill but coming back is therefore all uphill and steep so not for those who aren’t in good shape. Strongly suggest you go to the little bar on the ocean as a treat for your hike about 2km in. A peaceful and lovely view for a glass of wine or beer or coffee on the sea and very friendly owner.

The short hike down to the ocean is steep but totally worth it - took about an hour round trip. Taking it very easy. Great spot at the bottom to watch the massive waves and pet the numerous cats. Be careful on a rainy day- can become very slippery. Due to pouring rain, we did not make it on the long trail that follows the coast.
