Amazing family-run bar/restaurant with great food and unbeatable prices. Very friendly owners. We had the daily lunch menu for 12.5 per person including bread, olives, a drink, roasted chicken with fries and salad, dessert, and cofee! We wish we lived next door!

They don’t speak English and I don’t speak Portuguese but I know how to cook and this place is a little gem
Traditional food, we had homemade soup to start, fresh sardines, and homemade chips with a mixed salad.
Homemade fig cake and home made chocolate cake
Great value , actually fantastic value for lovely fresh homemade food

There was no wide variety of food to choose but what we got was really homemade chicken with fries and salad and georgeous cake and coffee. The service was fantastic. Great food for good price.

Wonderful family-run restaurant that's well frequented by locals. Our waitress was enthusiastic and friendly and the food was great with an unexpected and very welcome treat at the end.

This is a traditional, family run restaurant and cafe. Even though it serves traditional food, as a vegan I can get a fantastic meal here because the chef and owner, Fatima, understands my diet.
It is the place in Monchique where I take family and friends because they can enjoy traditional Portuguese food and my wife and I can be well catered for.
If you opt for the prato do dia (dish of the day), you will usually be offered a fish dish or a meat dish. Now here is an amazing fact: for 8 euros per person you get:
Bread, olives, soup, main dish, dessert, coffee and a drink. The drink is one beer or a half litre of wine (per person) or a soft drink. The food is outstanding, the service most friendly.
Some of the family speak English if you don't speak Portuguese a d Fatima can understand your order in English.
If you decide to avoid this place based purely on a perceived language barrier, you will be missing a wonderful, traditional Portuguese experience. You will go around the corner to the square and eat at twice the price and half the enjoyment.

The restaurant is small (as it was raining there was no outside seating); the staff (management?) appeared to be rather unorganized. Tables and chairs were constantly moved, guests were kept waiting at the door although several tables were empty. The staff were constantly yelling at each other.

I spent 2 nights at the hotel in next to the square and the most interesting thing was the music. All day played any band here. Very funny thing. There is no other task just sit down and listen...

We took he Elevador da Gloria to the Bairro Alto and walked along the narrow sidewalk south, just past the Igreja Sao Roque to an open square called Largo Trindade Coelho, where we found this interesting kiosk (associated with the nearby Petisqueira Estrela de Sao Roque), surrounded by a bunch of…
