Riamar, Cabanas de Tavira

Our go to restaurant bar in Cabanas. Their al la carte menu or specials have never disappointed. We have visited the last 3 years and the food continues to excel. If you have visited Porto in the north but crave a francesinha try this place. It is as authentic as it gets. Today's shrimp pasta special had a wonderful umami flavour that was unique to the chef. It belongs on the regular menu. We will continue to visit.

Absolutely brilliant place to stop for a drink or to indulge in an amazing lunch or dinner. Food quality was amazing, the staff were wonderful and the place was lovely and clean, as well as stylish. Will definitely be back. They were also lovely with our 5 year old daughter.

I have always wanted to try Francesinha, and the version here was fantastic.
It was huge!
My wife also enjoyed a Brazilian type dish of white fish and prawn stew with rice.
Good value home cooked food.

We arrived in Cabanas at 4pm on a Sunday when restaurants are closed after lunch and not yet open for dinner. We were very hungry so wandered down the promenade looking for a place to eat. Honestly we did not have high expectations when we stumbled upon Riomar. The kind waiter asked if we wanted to eat upstairs and inside (rather than outside with the smokers where it was cold). He took great care of us even though we were the only ones upstairs. The view of the sunset was great and the food came quickly and was superb. We had garlic shrimp as an appetizer and, craving red meat, decided on a burger, even though we typically eat fish in Portugal. We also ordered a Brazilian fish and shrimp dish cooked in coconut. The burger was unbelievably good and the Brazilian dish came very well presented in a ceramic crock with the rice garnished with thin slices of herbs. Beautiful! And delicious. My sangria (which I had never ordered before in Portugal) was very tasty. And the music was also terrific - a brazilian vibe. I asked if the owner is Brazilian and was told he is Portuguese but loves international cuisine. So do we! What a pleasant treat!

Wow! We had an amazing lunch taking advantage of the ‘special’ 500g steak for two, including a bottle of wine, for only €35. The steak was cooked to perfection and the quality of the wine was a perfect match. Service was polite, friendly and totally professional. Attentive but unobtrusive. What good value. Undoubtedly one of the best meals we’ve had on the Algarve. We will certainly be back and I already know what we’ll be having!
