Amazing place to go back in time and just enjoy good food. The traditional bacalhau pie you must try. This is part of the legacy of the Portugees in South American kitchen..

Such a fun and unique medieval experience! The drinks and atmosphere were the real highlight, making you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The food wasn’t anything special, but it fit perfectly with the theme. Definitely worth visiting for the experience alone!

From the outside, stood on the cobbled street under the castle wall looking in, it’s very dark. The signposts all point to the Medieval Tavern, which didn’t seem that promising as an idea for a lunch venue. However, looks can be deceiving.
We really enjoyed a tableful of lovely local food (three types of bread, ham, cheese and fruit [apple, melon, grape], three types of pie [meat and veg; meat and apple -sweet so have last; cod and peppers] all in a light pastry, salted and herbed tomatoes: tuna slices), alongside very tasty local craft ales (IPA and standard ale were available today - apparently other flavours appear through the year).
The waitress and service was excelllent - warm, helpful and friendly. She was really good with the two youngsters on the next table in deciding their order - great customer service.
As a sign of how nice a place this is, the couple on the other side had deliberately returned here to end their three week holiday.
It is well signposted but you can also look for the yellow, red and green ‘flags’ below the old castle walls.

Excellent experience, the food was delicious and affordable. The atmosphere was outstanding. If you are into medieval taverns, this one is the way to go! Loved the medieval music and the staff were great, even though they were busy with a busload full of people. The goat cheese was to die for and the meat pie was fantastic, have never tasted anything like it. Only thing I would change about my lunch there is to bring more time and eat more food instead of having to rush off to the bus.

A pearl in an Algarve increasingly less concerned with serving but more concerned with serving tourists.

A true medieval story. One of those places you enter with doubts but leave delighted. Fun and pleasant, we ate very well at a fantastic price. Carlos is charming and the place is original. Highly recommended.

We walked through the gates of this tavern like ordinary travellers... and came out like repulsed knights, happy souls and sanctified bellies. The tavernier, true lord of the place, welcomed us with a kindness worthy of the noblest stories. He even provided us with medieval outfits, to feel fully i…

Great food and went back in time. Definitely recommended and the food from start to finish delicious. You should try the Maud and the pasties are definitely worth it. The special thing is that it is allowed in traditional costume.
